RESISTANCE TESTING

2 weeks following treatment with a wormer, get a resistance test carried out. This is another worm egg count which is compared with the original result and gives us an idea of how well the treatment administered worked, allowing us to identify any potential resistance.

Included as standard with all routine worm egg counts or wormers (excluding products only for tapeworm) purchased.

KEY INFORMATION

Pipetting Samples and Test Tube

WHY CARRY OUT A RESISTANCE TEST?

By comparing the pre- and post-treatment worm egg count result, it allows us to assess how well the given treatment worked. This gives us an insight of any potential issues of resistance or inadequate administration of the product. We can then provide advice on any further action required to make sure your horse is adequately treated.

Science

HOW DO I TAKE A SAMPLE?

Exactly the same as a routine worm egg count.

Microscope

WHAT DO MY RESULTS MEAN?

If you have had a pre-treatment worm egg count carried out for your horse, the percentage reduction in parasite eggs will be reported, along with a comment on the Resistance Status.
